President Benigno S. Aquino III personally checked the situation in Loon, one of the municipalities in Bohol, which was devastated by the 7.2 magnitude earthquake that occured on October 14.
The President visited the places that were destroyed by the killer quake. He also led the distribution of relief goods to more than 160 families taking refuge in Loon South Central Elementary School.
In his speech, President Aquino belied the spreading rumors about another possible earthquake, relating Philippine Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) Director Renato Solidum’s assurance that this will not happen.
The President also visited the ruins of the century-old Our Lady of Light Parish, one of the national historical sites in Bohol, that had been reduced to rubble after the quake. He then inspected Loon market and visited those who got injured during the earthquake.
In a press briefing, President Aquino assured the LGUs that there is enough savings, amounting to P20 billion, that the government can tap to address their immediate issues.
He added that the Senate will be passing a resolution urging the government to allocate P7.5 billion to augment the current contingent fund from savings.
As of the latest tally, Bohol has reached the highest mortality with 173 total deaths, 60 of which are casualties from Loon.
