President Rodrigo Roa Duterte checked the condition of more than 1,500 evacuees who took refuge in an evacuation center after a massive landslide ravaged a small village in the City of Naga, leaving dozens of casualties and injured.
In his remarks, the President expressed his sympathy to the survivors, including those who have lost their homes and loved ones.
“I feel very bad about what happened. The crisis that you are facing now is not easy. It’s a heavy burden to carry and it’s not only because of the many people who were injured and those who died,” President Duterte said in Cebuano.
A mandatory forced evacuation was ordered by the local government unit (LGU) of the City of Naga in the village of Sitio Sindulan, Barangay Tinaan. Hundreds of families were left displaced in seven designated evacuation center. The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and Red Cross extended their assistance to those affected with food and medical aid.
Based on the latest information, there are 29 confirmed casualties. Authorities continue with their search and rescue operation as there are dozens feared trapped below the rubbles.
