President Rodrigo Roa Duterte paid a visit to Kabankalan City in Negros Occidental to inspect the damages brought by Typhoon ‘Odette’ (international name: Rai).

The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) reported that 90-95% of infrastructures in the City alone are either totally or partially damaged. At least 93,000 families are affected throughout the Province.

In the continuing efforts of the national government to aid in the recovery of residents, the Chief Executive, together with Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose ‘Bong’ Lacson, witnessed the ceremonial turnover of 1,000 packs of relief goods to affected families led by Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Secretary Rolando Joselito Bautista.

At least 20,000 food packs are made available for immediate distribution with thousands more coming in from the DSWD and Office of Civil Defense (OCD). The Department of Health (DOH) also extended relief assistance by distributing sanitation kits.

Negros Occidental is one of the provinces in the Western Visayas Region that has been severely devastated by Typhoon ‘Odette’ on 17 December 2021, resulting to a number of fatalities.
