President Benigno S. Aquino III presided a briefing with concerned authorities on updates regarding super typhoon “Yolanda” (internationally known as “Haiyan”) which struck a massive part of the Visayas region early yesterday (8 November 2013).

Heads and representatives of different departments such as the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) and other agencies individually informed the President on their assessments and actions being taken to give pre-emptive and immediate assistance to more than 905, 253 affected families over 36 provinces.

“Yolanda” is said to be one of the strongest typhoons ever recorded in history. According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), “Yolanda” made its last landfall in Busuanga Island at 1:30 am today and is heading towards Vietnam.
