January 10, 2019
President Rodrigo Roa Duterte inspected and led the distribution of housing units to several wounded-in-action (WIA) soldiers, wounded-in-police-operation (WIPO) police officers, and local government unit (LGU) beneficiaries at the Pleasant View Residences in San Jose Del Monte, Bulacan.
In his message, President Duterte underscored the invaluable service of the soldiers in combat whom he prioritizes under his administration; as a testament, he doubled the salary of the uniformed personnel.
“Ito namang sa sundalo because I saw it with my own eyes the suffering and agony of a soldier of the Republic, and I thought that maski na papano, we can make things easier for them. At least life a better and a bit comfortable… dahil nga may pinsala,” he said.
As part of the administration’s extended assistance under the Comprehensive Social Benefits Program (CSBP), 800 out of 1,788 housing units in the Pleasant View Residences shall be allocated to the WIA soldiers and WIPO police officers. The President also directed the Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council (HUDCC) to allocate bigger housing spaces for the uniformed personnel at 50% discount, reducing the monthly amortization from PhP625 to PhP225, payable for 30 years for the disabled soldiers who fought in the Marawi siege. At the same time, a full grant shall be awarded to deserving soldiers.
HUDCC Secretary-General and National Housing Authority (NHA) General Manager Marcelino Escalada, Jr. announced the creation of 13 more housing projects for 2019; generating about 6,400 units across the country to be completed in 2022 that would be allocated solely for the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and Philippine National Police (PNP).
Meanwhile, the remaining units in the Pleasant View Residences shall be allocated to the informal settlers’ families (ISFs) identified by the local government of Bulacan. Dexter Carlos, the security guard whose family had been massacred by drug addicts in Bulacan, was among the recipients to be awarded by the LGU.
