President Rodrigo Roa Duterte led the turnover of 74 fire trucks to local government units (LGUs) in a ceremony held at the Lapu-Lapu Grandstand of Camp General Emilio Aguinaldo in Quezon City.
Upon his arrival, President Duterte was ushered to a walking briefing where he inspected a collapsed structure and rescue truck as well as two (2) fire trucks. Thereafter, he proceeded to the ceremonial turnover with LGU representatives from Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao receiving the ceremonial keys of the fire trucks.
In his keynote address, the President expressed that the fire trucks are a testament to the government’s full support in the Bureau of Fire Protection’s (BFP) mandate to promote public safety and protect properties from destruction caused by natural and man-made disasters and other emergencies.
“I hope that with these fire trucks, the BFP will become more capable and effective in ensuring the safety of our communities and industries. I am confident that with your help, we can further boost our people’s confidence in their government and create an environment where our people can live and work in peace,” said President Duterte.
The Commander-in-Chief also called on all the BFP personnel to further step-up their anti-corruption efforts through a corrupt-free conduct of fire safety inspections and the issuance of fire safety certifications pursuant to the ‘Ease of Doing Business’ Law.
“Bibigyang natin diin ang nasabi ko na dati: Lahat ng mga tauhan ng gobyerno na nasasangkot sa iligal na droga, korupsyon, at iba pang mga katiwalian ay matatanggal sa kanyang — sa kanilang trabaho,” he said.
“With these additional fire trucks and the recent increase in the salaries of uniformed personnel, the Filipino people expect you to become more dedicated, efficient and reliable in the performance of duties. May you [be] further inspired to work even harder in the building of the bedrock of a safer and more prosperous society for the present and future generations,” the President stated.
