President Benigno S. Aquino III challenged the 2012 awardees of The Outstanding Young Men (TOYM) to do more for the country and to continue being creative, excellent, and relevant during the awarding ceremony in Malacañan Palace.

“You are inspirations to our countrymen, and your continued pursuit of excellence will tell our people that the fight to bring this country to prominence continues,” the President said.

Among the awardees are Rep. Emmeline Aglipay for Public Service, Waren Baticados for Veterinary Medicine, Emelio “Chieffy” Caligdong for Sports, Abelardo Apollo David Jr. for Community Occupational Rehabilitation, Ivan Anthony Henares for Heritage Conservation, Rodrigo “Jiggy” Manicad Jr. for Broadcast Journalism and Allan “Apl.de.ap.” Pineda Jr. for Contemporary Music.

He told the recipients that after receiving the TOYM award, they are no longer mere private persons but are also symbols that represent important Filipino characteristics and values.

“Beginning today, you are no longer merely private individuals but symbols – symbols that clearly show our countrymen and the rest of the world that the Filipino is world class, and that, no matter how successful he or she becomes, the Filipino never loses the spirit of bayanihan, and always comes back to help his fellowmen,” he stated.

TOYM is an annual project of JCI Philippines (Philippine Jaycees) which aims to recognize exemplary men and women who selflessly dedicate their lives in their respective field of expertise.
