Working Visit of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte to Japan
October 25-27, 2016

President Rodrigo Roa Duterte embarks on his first presidential visit to Japan after accepting Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe’s invitation for him to visit the country. The two leaders met during a bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the 28th and 29th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summits held in Vientiane, Lao People’s Democratic Republic (PDR) on September 2016.

The President meets the Filipino community in Japan shortly after his arrival at Haneda International Airport on October 25, 2016. He also gives an address before the Philippine Economic Forum and  meets with top Japanese business leaders.

The highlights of the working visit include his meeting with Prime Minister Abe and his State Call on His Majesty Emperor Akihito at the Imperial Palace.

President Duterte’s visit to Japan aims to strengthen the bilateral relations and strategic partnership between the Philippines and Japan, and to reaffirm the cooperation on regional and international issues.

This year marks the 60th anniversary of the establishment of the Philippines and Japan’s bilateral relations.
