President Benigno S. Aquino III welcomed His Excellency Dr. Tony Tan Keng Yam, President of the Republic of Singapore, on his four-day State Visit in the Philippines.
The Singapore President paid a visit to President Aquino to talk about issues concerning bilateral ties, trade, economy, as well as peace, stability and growth for both Filipinos and Singaporeans. Over the years, the two countries have shared a strong friendship, which has grown and deepened. Also, this year marked the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Philippines and Singapore. In their press statements, the two leaders expressed their gratitude to each other and promised to continue working closely for the development of peace and prosperity between the two nations.
President Tony Tan arrived in the Philippines on April 2 (Wednesday) and is expected to be in the country until April 5 (Saturday), where he will personally visit damaged areas in Basey, Samar, particularly the Basey District Hospital. During the Typhoon Yolanda rehabilitation, Singapore donated $200,000 for financial and humanitarian aid supplies to ensure faster recovery.
