Hanoi, Vietnam
29-30 January 2024
President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. embarks on his first State Visit to the Socialist Republic of Vietnam on January 29-30, 2024.
Upon the invitation of President Vo Van Thuong, this is his first visit to Vietnam since assuming the Presidency in 2022.
The visit provides an opportunity to raise diplomatic ties to even greater heights since the establishment of bilateral relations in 1976, dating back to the administration of the Chief Executive’s father, the late President Ferdinand E. Marcos Sr.
Likewise, the two nations seek to reinvigorate their strategic partnership formed in 2015. Vietnam is the Philippines’ only strategic partner in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Region.
President Marcos Jr. is set to hold a bilateral meeting with President Vo Van Thuong and engage in discussions with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue.
Both countries aim to further strengthen cooperation in various areas, bolster trade and investment, and promote people-to-people exchanges. Agreements on rice trade and maritime cooperation are expected to be inked when the Chief Executive visits the Presidential Palace in Hanoi.
President Marcos Jr. also allots time to meet with the Filipinos residing and working in Vietnam in a community gathering on the first day of his state visit.
