President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. led a situation briefing on the effects brought about by the trough or extension of a low-pressure area (LPA) in the Caraga Region.

The event commenced with detailed briefings by Governor Santiago Cane Jr. of Agusan Del Sur, Governor Maria Angelica Rosedell Amante of Agusan Del Norte and Governor Alexander Pimentel of Surigao Del Sur. Each Governor provided insights into the current challenges faced by their respective Provinces, shedding light on the extent of the impact caused by the adverse weather condition.

Office of Civil Defense (OCD) XIII Regional Director Liza Mazo provided an overview of the government’s response to the LPA in the Region, outlining the measures undertaken to mitigate its effects and ensure the safety and well-being of the affected communities.

In his guidance, the Chief Executive underscored the critical importance of climate and disaster risk assessment in each Province, emphasizing close coordination with the Department of Health (DOH), Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), Department of Agriculture (DA), and Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH). He stressed the necessity of strengthening or adapting infrastructure to withstand the impact of climate change, delivering potable water and non-food items to the victims and evacuees, and prioritizing the reconstruction of damaged infrastructure, such as roads, bridges and thoroughfares, among other directives.

Following the briefing, the President personally led the distribution of checks, allocating funds totaling PhP120 million to support the affected Provinces in their recovery and reconstruction efforts, offering much-needed relief to the affected communities.

As the government remains steadfast in prioritizing the welfare of its citizens, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. reaffirmed his commitment to providing assistance and support to those affected by natural disasters and other emergencies.
