President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, together with top government officials of various concerned agencies and the local government, presided over the situation briefing at the Batangas Provincial Sports Complex (BPSC) in Batangas City.

During the briefing, the President assured the local government of Batangas on the national government’s commitment to bring speedy assistance and rehabilitation to severely affected towns in the province.

As of the latest reports gathered by the Batangas Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) as of 11:00 am on 14 January 2020, there are 8,724 families (37,116 individuals) from 27 towns affected by the ashfalls that have sought refuge in 192 evacuation sites in Batangas and Cavite.

However, according to Batangas Governor Hermilando Mandanas, the number could just represent a small margin as other families sought shelter from their relatives in nearby towns.

Meanwhile, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) maintains Taal Volcano’s alert warning at level 4 as it continues to spew volcanic ash and has recorded 212 volcanic tremors since Sunday (January 12, 2020). Reports on surface fissures have also been documented that signals an imminent volcanic eruption.
