President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, together with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Heads of State/Government, convened for the ceremonial signing of the ‘ASEAN Declaration on the Role of the Civil Service as a Catalyst for Achieving the ASEAN Community Vision 2025’, held at the Meeting Room 1, Delegation Building of the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) in Pasay City.

The said document highlights the contribution of the civil service in the attainment of sustainable development goals through initiatives geared towards the highest standards of professionalism, efficiency, effectiveness, participatory approach, responsiveness, transparency, and accountability.

It also aims to promote cooperation on the development and implementation of capacity building programs, and to serve as a venue for exchanges of best practices in critical areas of concern, particularly in environment promotion, climate change, disaster management, health, and gender equality.

The said declaration envisions the raising of professional standards and capabilities of civil servants, as well as the protection of their welfare. It encourages the strengthening of alliance building, partnership among ASEAN member-countries and dialogue partners, regional and multilateral organizations, civil society, private sector, and other stakeholders.
