President Rodrigo Roa Duterte graced the send-off ceremony for the much-needed 250 transport vehicle units of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) at the Camp General Vicente Lim (GCVL) in Calamba City, Laguna.
In his speech, President Duterte acknowledged the efforts of the military and uniformed personnel (MUPs) and conveyed his concern for the personnel’s lives and their families.
“Pag namatayan ako ng pulis, kayo, mga guwardiya, I have a problem. There’s a family that is totally broken because there is no longer a father, then the family suffers,” the Commander-in-Chief said, further citing that he will not excuse corruption within the military ranks.
To add to his commitment in providing them an improved quality of life, President Duterte vowed to support the BJMP and urged them to fulfill their sworn duty to protect the people and the nation’s interest.
“To our jail officers, be assured I am always behind you as you perform your duties in accordance with law,” he said.
“We are all workers of government sworn to protect the people. Your loyalty should begin and end with the Republic of the Philippines. Do not mind me,” he added.
During the event, the Chief Executive also led the ceremonial turnover of 17 keys of the said transport vehicles that represent the 17 regions the vehicles will be sent off to.
With a total manpower strength of over 13,000 personnel, the BJMP is responsible for handling 500 jail centers nationwide.
Also present during the ceremony, were members of the BJMP, Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), Philippine National Police (PNP), and local officials of Laguna Province.
