President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. headed the discussion on updates regarding the Electric Vehicle (EV) Industry Development in the country during his second sectoral meeting at the Malacañan Palace.
Department of Energy (DOE) Undersecretary Felix William Fuentebella discussed the EV industry situationer, comprehensive roadmap for the EV industry, existing initiatives for the development of local EV manufacturing (human resources development, technical skills development and research development), as well as the best practices and mechanisms of other countries that the Philippines may adopt.
Likewise, a presentation was made on challenges in the adoption of electric vehicles, plans and targets for the electrification of public transportation, and issues and ways forward such as ongoing financing scheme and proposal for additional financing.
President Marcos Jr. emphasized the need for more charging stations to be established for electric vehicles, the availability of financing schemes to assist consumers who are interested to change to EVs, and battery replacement for electric vehicles to lower maintenance cost.
