In a continuing move towards modernizing government procurement processes, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. convened with the Procurement Service of the Department of Budget and Management (PS-DBM) in a sectoral meeting at the Kalayaan Hall in Malacañan Palace.

Discussion revolved around the advancement and implementation of the Philippine Government Electronic Procurement System (PhilGEPS) and its new feature, the Electronic Marketplace (eMarketplace).

Atty. Dennis Santiago, Procurement Service Executive Director, underscored the importance of Section 8 of Republic Act No. 9184 which mandates procurement by electronic means and establishes PhilGEPS as the primary platform for government procurement information.

PhilGEPS stands as a singular portal aimed at centralizing information for all government procurement activities. Among its recent enhancements are features like the Virtual Store, eWallet, Annual Procurement Plan, ePayment and eProcurement. Notably, the upcoming integration of eMarketplace and Advanced Analytics promises further streamlining and efficiency.

The eMarketplace offers a multitude of benefits, including significant reductions in procurement timelines. Procurement processes that once spanned weeks or months through traditional methods can now be completed in mere minutes, ensuring the swift and efficient acquisition of goods and services.

Moreover, the transition to eMarketplace generates substantial savings for government agencies by minimizing expenditures associated with conventional procurement practices.
