President Rodrigo Roa Duterte commended outgoing Presidential Security Group (PSG) Commander Brigadier General Jose Eriel Niembra for the steady and unwavering leadership he displayed throughout his tour of duty as the PSG chief in a Change of Command Ceremony at the PSG Compound in Malacañang Park, City of Manila.

“Sir, your efficiency and effectivity in the discharge of your duties have certainly inspired the entire PSG to strive for excellence, whatever their positions may be,” said President Duterte.

Apart from being able to provide security during the 2019 elections, the 3rd and 4th State of the Nation Address (SONA), the 30th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games and the 1st Presidential Silent Drill Competition, the PSG, under BGen. Niembra’s command, had also managed to successfully provide safety for President Duterte and his family in 19 foreign and 1,250 local engagements.

The President also spoke highly of the PSG’s milestones in ensuring the safety of the Heads of State and Ambassadors during their visit to Malacañang.

“I also laud Brigadier General Niembra for taking steps towards ensuring that our PSG personnel are able to continue with their training classes and schooling for the advancement of their careers,” he added.

Colonel Jesus Durante III, former Commanding Officer of the Presidential Escorts and designated by the President himself, takes over as the incoming PSG Commander.

“I trust that under your supervision, the PSG will be able to continue the excellent provision of security to the Office of the President, to my family as well, and to the visiting heads of states [and] diplomats. I look forward to working with you in the coming months,” the Commander-in-Chief stated.

Col. Durante III is a seasoned veteran and a highly decorated Philippine Army (PA) officer who received 13 Gold Cross Medals for his gallantry in action throughout 18 years of outstanding military service. Prior to his assignment as head of the Presidential Escorts, he served as Commanding Officer of the 2nd Scout Ranger Battalion of the First Scout Ranger Regiment.
