“Naniniwala kami na ang pagkalinga sa ating mga magsasaka at mangingisda sa mga panahong tulad nito ang susi upang muling makabangon at makatulong sa pagpapanday ng isang mas masagana at maunlad na Bagong Pilipinas,” expressed President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. when he led the distribution of various assistance to farmers, fisherfolk and families in Butuan City, demonstrating the government’s readiness and commitment to help all those in need, be it in times of El Niño or the approaching rainy season.

Butuan City in Agusan del Norte was declared under a state of calamity amid the dry spell, directly affecting almost 3,700 farmers and fisherfolk, and resulting to around PhP700 million worth of losses in the Region’s agriculture sector.

The President acknowledged the agencies present during the event to hand over government aid, including the Office of House Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez, Department of Agriculture (DA), Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), and Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

On top of their assistance, President Marcos Jr. extended monetary support worth PhP46.84 million to the City Government of Butuan, forming part of the PhP158.15 million allocated fund for the entire Region XIII. Farm machineries and equipment were turned over as well, serving as additional mechanism to promote the livelihood of all those in the affected sectors.

The Chief Executive likewise shared other development projects lined up for Butuan City, including the construction of the Butuan City-Agusan del Norte Logistical Highway and the soon-to-be completed widening of the bypass road connecting Mayor Democrito D. Plaza II Avenue and Daang Maharlika, which is expected to facilitate the mobility of goods and services in the City.

Nonetheless, he urged his countrymen to continue supporting government programs that aim to uplift the lives of every Filipino under the vision of a ‘Bagong Pilipinas’.
