“Bagama’t ilang araw na ang lumipas, alam ko pong malaking pasakit pa rin ang iniwang pinsala ng bagyo sa inyong mga tahanan at pamayanan. Kaya po naparito ako upang makapagbigay ng tulong para sa inyong muling pagbangon at pagtahak ng panibagong simula,” President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. conveyed during the distribution of assistance to farmers, fisherfolk and families impacted by Severe Tropical Storm (STS) ‘Kristine’ at the Ibalong Centrum for Recreation in Legazpi City, Albay.

In his speech, President Marcos Jr. highlighted the importance of improving disaster resilience and preparedness. He urged government agencies to intensify efforts to mitigate the effects of climate change, stressing the increasing intensity of storms and the growing damage they cause.

“Hindi tayo magpapatinag sa mga trahedyang ito; bagkus, palalawigin pa natin ang ating paghahanda at bibilisan ang ating pagkilos upang mapigilan ang pag-ulit ng ganitong epekto ng mga kalamidad,” he stated.

He announced initiatives aimed at improving the country’s infrastructure to withstand disasters, including the implementation of new designs for roads and bridges. He emphasized the need for durable and safe materials in construction to ensure long-term resilience.

On the matter of financial support, President Marcos Jr. also directed the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) to ensure the seamless and swift disbursement of funds from the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).

The Chief Executive urged all government agencies, as well as every Filipino citizen, to unite and continue working together to combat the challenges brought by climate change and natural disasters.

“Sama-sama nating itatag ang isang mas handa, masagana at progresibong Bagong Pilipinas,” President Marcos Jr. concluded in his speech.
