Presidential Hall, Malacañan Palace
7 July 2016
President Rodrigo Roa Duterte offered the Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council (HUDCC) post to Vice President Maria Leonor ‘Leni’ Robredo in a phone call after a press statement at the Presidential Hall in Malacañan Palace.
After being asked by PTV Reporter Rocky Ignacio whether he will give the Vice President a Cabinet post, President Duterte called the Vice President and offered the HUDCC position.
“Pwede ka Housing ma’am? Can you be the Housing Secretary? Tanggapin mo ma’am?” asked the President during the phone call.
“Para you’d be kept abreast of what is happening to our country,” he added, citing his intention to include Vice President Robredo during Cabinet meetings.
The announcement came three days after the Vice President paid a courtesy call on President Duterte in Malacañang.
Vice President Robredo made a statement after her visit on July 4, 2016, saying that President Duterte invited her to visit him more often, with the President asking her; “Please assist me in my job… It is better that you are also informed of the country’s situation.”
“Our image alone that we are friends will appease many troubled minds. I hope the feuds between our supporters will be reduced. This is important moving forward,” said Vice President Robredo.
Former Vice Presidents Noli de Castro and Jejomar Binay both served as Chair of HUDCC during their tenure.
