President Benigno S. Aquino III, together with some of his Cabinet members, met with the officials and executives of Metro Pacific Investments Corporation, San Miguel Corporation, Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation, Metro North Tollways Corporation, and the Toll Regulatory Board to discuss the update of two projects undertaken independently and simultaneously at present – the Harbor Link and NLEX-SLEX Connector Road Projects, and the Metro Manila Skyway Stage 3 Project.
The first project consist of a Harbor Link at NLEX Segments 9 and 10 with a distance of 8.07 kilometers, and the NLEX-SLEX Connector Road with a distance of 13.24 kilometers, for a total of 21.31 kilometers. The said project is expected to be completed in 2-3 years.
The second project is a 14.2-kilometer Metro Manila Skyway Stage 3 from Buendia, Makati City to Balintawak, Quezon City.
Among the major benefits of the two projects include job generation for 8,000 workers during the construction period, traffic decongestion in public roads, connectivity to major Manila ports in the north and south destinations that will result to the elimination of truck ban and enabling 24/7 unimpeded delivery of goods, faster and efficient movement of people and goods especially for Regions 3 and 4, less right-of-way acquisition concerns, less impact on the environment, and connectivity between NAIA and Clark airports.
By 2016, the NAIA-Clark Integrated Expressway Connections will cover a total distance of 113 kilometers and reducing travel time between 70 to 75 minutes.
The two infrastructure projects by Metro Pacific Investments Corporation and San Miguel Corporation cost P45 billion pesos and will be completed during President Aquino’s term.
