Reaffirming the country’s commitment to strengthening diplomatic ties, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. received the credentials of the Resident Ambassadors of Ireland, Finland and the European Union (EU) to the Philippines in a ceremony at Malacañan Palace on September 25, 2024.

During the ceremony, President Marcos Jr. welcomed Her Excellency Saija Nurminen, Finland’s Ambassador-designate, as the two nations prepare to celebrate the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations. The President expressed optimism for future cooperation in trade, technology and renewable energy — areas where Finland excels and align with the Philippines’ goals.

The Chief Executive also accepted the credentials of H.E. Emma Hickey, Ireland’s Ambassador-designate, underscoring the significance of strong ties despite geographical distance. Ambassador Hickey commended the warmth of the Filipino people and voiced hope for collaboration in trade, education and cultural exchange.

Additionally, President Marcos Jr. met with H.E. Mariomassimo Santoro, the EU Ambassador-designate, to discuss expanding cooperation in trade, climate action and green energy. They emphasized infrastructure development, digital transformation and educational exchanges, reaffirming their commitment to sustainable development.
