President Benigno S. Aquino III attended the presentation of Concession Agreement for the Bulacan Bulk Water Supply Project (BBWSP) held at the La Consolacion University in Malolos City, Bulacan.

The said project includes the development of water resources, conveyance facilities, and water treatment facilities to meet the current and future demand for potable water supply for water service providers covering the province of Bulacan. Coverage areas extend to 21 municipalities and three cities. An estimated total of 3.4 million people will benefit from the project.

It is the 12th Public-Private Partnership (PPP) project awarded during the Aquino administration, and the first PPP project to address issues on the water sector.

During the program, President Aquino received copies of the signed documents regarding BBWSP including the following — Concession Agreement by San Miguel Corporation President and Chief Operating Officer (COO) Mr. Ramon Ang; Contract to Sell National Housing Authority (NHA) Property by Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) Acting Chairman of the Board and Administrator Architect Gerardo Esquivel; Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) for the Use of Water Rights from the Angat Reservoir by Bulacan Governor Wilhelmino Sy-Alvarado; and MOA Formalizing the Contracted Volume of Treated Bulk Water by Bulacan Association of Water Districts (BAWD) President Engineer Aimer Cruz.

In his speech, the President stressed the importance of potable water in the future of the country. “Napakahalaga nga pong masiguro natin ang maayos na supply ng tubig sa bansa, lalo pa’t pinaghahandaan at tinutugunan natin ang banta ng El Niño,” the President said. “Makakaasa kayo, ginagawa po ng inyong gobyerno ang lahat upang magtuloy-tuloy ang serbisyo ng tubig para sa ating mamamayan,” he then added.
