President Rodrigo Roa Duterte congratulated the San Miguel Alab Pilipinas for bringing home the championship title in the recently concluded Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Basketball League during the team’s photo opportunity with the Chief Executive at the Reception Hall in Malacañan Palace.

Led by head coach Jimmy Alapag, the team posed for a photo opportunity with the President. One of Alab Pilipinas’ players, Dondon Hontiveros, who hails from Cebu, also spoke with the President in Bisaya and requested for the President’s autograph on his jersey uniform.

The Alab Pilipinas battled Thailand’s Mono Vampire and bagged the championship title with a 102-92 final score during the ASEAN Basketball League (ABL) championship held at the Santa Rosa Multi-Purpose Complex in Laguna last May 2, 2018.

The championship marks the first ABL title by a Philippine team since the San Miguel Beermen took home the title back in 2013.
