President Benigno S. Aquino III underscored the achievements of the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA) when he graced its 20th anniversary celebration held at the World Trade Center, Pasay City.
In his speech, the President cited that PEZA-approved investments had reached P2.86 trillion as of December 2014, accounting to more than 45% or about P1.3 trillion worth of investments recorded under his administration.
Additionally on the same year, the Philippines recorded US$6.20 billion in net foreign direct investments, which was worth six times more than what the country had received in 2010.
“I am genuinely pleased for your success, and I hope that this upward trajectory continues for your businesses – especially since the majority, if not all of you have displayed a sincere commitment to the Filipino people,” he said.
President Aquino also mentioned the 1,078,157 individuals employed through PEZA-registered companies since 1995. “Let us also not forget the multiplier effect that PEZA jobs have on local economies: five indirect jobs for every person employed, which means that at least 5 million people have been positively affected by the work of everyone here this afternoon,” he added.
PEZA is an agency created by the Department of Trade and Industry to promote investments, extend assistance, grant incentives and facilitate the operations of investors inside the selected areas in the country.
