As the Administration continues to reaffirm its unwavering commitment to promote a whole-of-government approach in combating misinformation and disinformation, the Presidential Communications Office (PCO) kicks off the PCO CommUnity Caravan at the Eastern Visayas State University (EVSU) in Tacloban City, Leyte on February 19, 2024.

The event marks the first CommUnity caravan in the Visayas Region this year following its successful launch last December 2023.

Various news agencies and broadcast networks under the PCO umbrella gather to showcase and highlight their respective offices’ line of work anchored on bringing government programs and services closer to Filipinos, while aiming to foster a sense of unity among the youth. Students, campus journalists and student leaders of the EVSU engage in various informative set-ups such as booths, media information literacy workshops, panel discussions and Konsyerto sa Palasyo (KSP) auditions, among others.

In an interview, EVSU President Dennis De Paz expresses gratitude to the PCO CommUnity Caravan for giving students an opportunity to be exposed and experience the government’s rollout of the Media and Information Literacy (MIL) campaign, vowing to uphold the University’s commitment to support the national government in its pursuit to counter the spread of false information in the country.

“Our students were given the opportunity to visit ‘yung mga shino-showcase niyo na equipment. Indeed this is a great blessing for the University na naging part kami ng caravan of PCO. Activities like this, especially from the Office of the President, we’ll have to support. Because I do believe our students will be learning a lot from the said caravan,” EVSU President De Paz conveyed.

The PCO CommUnity Caravan is pursuant to Proclamation No. 308 signed by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. declaring the month of October every year as ‘Communication Month.’ As the lead Agency, PCO plans to take the caravan to different schools and universities across the country to inspire the Filipino youth in grassroots nation-building initiatives in support of the Administration’s ‘Bagong Pilipinas.’
