November 8-11, 2017
President Rodrigo Roa Duterte embarks on a second visit to Vietnam to participate in the 25th Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders’ Meeting (AELM) set to take place in Da Nang, the third largest city in Vietnam, from November 8-11, 2017.
The 25th APEC bears the theme, ‘Creating New Dynamism, Fostering A Shared Future,’ stressing the “common and long-term goal of APEC to build a peaceful, stable, integrated and prosperous community in the Asia-Pacific.”
To highlight the APEC 2017 theme, Vietnam selected four (4) priorities – Promoting Sustainable, Innovative and Inclusive Growth; Deepening Regional Economic Integration; Strengthening MSMEs’ (Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises) Competitiveness and Innovation in the Digital Age; and Enhancing Food Security and Sustainable Agriculture in Response to Climate Change.
Established in 1989, APEC is the premier economic forum in the Asia-Pacific, with the primary goal of supporting sustainable economic growth and prosperity in the region. APEC’s 21 members are referred to as ‘Economies’ “because the APEC cooperative process is predominantly concerned with trade and economic issues, with members engaging with one another as economic entities.”
The APEC 21 Member Economies are Australia, Brunei Darussalam, Canada, Chile, People’s Republic of China, Hong Kong, China, Indonesia, Japan, Republic of Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Peru, Philippines, Russia, Singapore, Chinese Taipei, Thailand, United States of America, and Vietnam.
