President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. joined his counterparts from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and Dialogue Partners for the opening of the first ASEAN-Indo-Pacific Forum (AIPF) at the Hotel Mulia Senayan in Jakarta, Indonesia.
The AIPF, a flagship event by Indonesia as this year’s ASEAN Chair, happened on the sidelines of the 43rd ASEAN Summit and Related Summits from September 5-7, 2023.
The Forum highlighted the importance of the regional bloc’s ongoing efforts to implement the ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific (AOIP). The AOIP is a framework that highlights four (4) key priorities: maritime cooperation, connectivity, sustainable development and economic cooperation.
Among the topics discussed include the development of green infrastructure and resilient supply chains, sustainable and innovative financing, inclusive digital transformation and the creative economy.
In addition, the Forum hoped to promote infrastructure projects in Southeast Asia, including the promotion of five (5) airport projects in the Philippines.
The event provided an opportunity for ASEAN and the Indo-Pacific region to foster collaborative growth efforts as the regional bloc is home to some of the world’s fastest growing economies.
