President Rodrigo Roa Duterte graced the opening of the National Science and Technology Week (NSTW) celebration at the SMX Convention Center in Lanang, Davao City.
The three-day event from July 6 to 8, 2018 centered on the theme, ‘Science for the People in Mindanao: Innovation for Collective Prosperity’.
In the event, the President was given a walking briefing by DOST Secretary Fortunato de la Peña on the DOST exhibits regarding the Geohazard Maps produced for Mindanao via the Light Imaging Detection and Ranging (LIDAR) 2 Project and the Philippine Earth Data Resource and Observation (PEDRO) Center.
In his speech, President Duterte assured the Filipinos of the government’s pursuit for development, saying, “In this administration’s priority to provide a comfortable and secure life for the Filipino, rest assured that you have my full support in empowering individuals and bringing our country towards better heights. I trust that you will be with me as we work together in establishing a brighter and better future for all…This I can assure you.”
The event was organized by the Mindanao Cluster of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) in partnership with the Technology Application and Promotion Institute (DOST-TAPI) which highlighted the contributions of science and technology in Mindanao’s development particularly scientific fora, panel discussions and recognition of project beneficiaries, scholarship grantees from Marawi, and the youth who excelled in Science.
