A cultural show of Cambodian performers welcomed President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and his fellow Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Leaders at the opening ceremony of the 40th and 41st ASEAN Summits and Related Summits at the Sokha Phnom Penh Hotel in Cambodia.
The Chief Executive listened to the remarks of Cambodia’s Prime Minister Hun Sen that focused on building a resilient community for all, especially with the emergence of global challenges that may threaten the economic, peace and social stability of the Region.
“We now can stand witness to how that small group has evolved not only in number but also in political strength and economic power. We now convene major powers and bring them to the table to discuss significant regional and international issues,” said the Prime Minister who is this year’s ASEAN Chair.
President Marcos Jr.’s presence reflected his commitment to contribute to the Region’s growth and development, especially with the Philippines reaching a Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of 7.6% this third quarter.
Heads of State/Government from the regional bloc comprised of Brunei Darussalam, Kingdom of Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao People’s Democratic Republic, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Kingdom of Thailand and Socialist Republic of Vietnam attended the event.
According to Prime Minister Hun Sen of Cambodia, the 40th and 41st ASEAN Summits and Related Summits is instrumental as it guides the Region’s actions in addressing challenges for the coming years.
A photo exhibit on the contributions of Cambodia to ASEAN was also launched during the event.
