to the Republic of the Union of Myanmar
Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar
March 19-20, 2017
President Rodrigo Roa Duterte rounds up his introductory visit within the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) region by embarking on an Official Visit to the Republic of the Union of Myanmar from March 19-20, 2017.
The visit comes at the heels of the 60th anniversary celebration of the establishment of Philippines-Myanmar bilateral relations.
The Chief Executive is set to meet with President U Htin Kyaw, the first civilian president of Myanmar in five (5) decades. He is also scheduled to hold separate meetings with State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi and Commander-in-Chief Senior General Min Aung Hlaing.
President Duterte is allotting time to interact with the Filipinos on the first day of his visit. More than 200 Pinoys immediately registered their participation in the Filipino community meeting upon learning the news from the Philippine Embassy. From Yangon, they will be traveling five (5) hours going to Nay Pyi Taw, the administrative capital of Myanmar, to personally see the President and listen to his message.
The President’s visit to Myanmar commences as the Philippines is this year’s ASEAN Chair and is set to host the 30th and 31st ASEAN Summits, apart from leading the 50th founding anniversary of the ASEAN regional bloc.
