President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and Prime Minister Lawrence Wong of Singapore reaffirmed the strong partnership between the two nations, highlighting nearly 60 years of diplomatic, economic and cultural ties during the official banquet honoring Prime Minister Lawrence Wong and Mrs Wong at the Ceremonial Hall in Malacañan Palace.
In his brief remarks, President Marcos Jr. emphasized the importance of regional stability, adherence to international law, and the shared pursuit of peace, security and prosperity.
“Our shared aspirations for peace, security, and prosperity, and our adherence to international law and the rules-based order, have been our ballast that we need in our rather turbulent world, drastically different to that which initially saw the creation of the United Nations and of ASEAN, and with the steady hands of leaders like Prime Minister Wong. I am confident in the continued expansion and strengthening of our bilateral relations,” stated President Marcos Jr.
In response, Prime Minister Wong highlighted the increasing connectivity between the two nations, including expanded air routes and joint environmental initiatives such as the conservation of the endangered Negros Bleeding Heart Pigeon — a symbol of regional cooperation.
“But there is still much more that we can do together, and this afternoon the President and I discussed some priority areas for cooperation. These include renewable energy and carbon credits. Our joint initiatives will support our climate goals, boost energy resilience, and unlock new opportunities in the green economy,” said Prime Minister Wong.
Concluding his remarks, the Prime Minister expressed his commitment to deepening the partnership, stating, “Excellencies, the Singapore-Philippines partnership is built on firm and growing connections between our countries, and I look forward to working with President Marcos Jr. to take it to even greater heights.”
The banquet showcased the Philippines’ renowned hospitality, featuring the best of Filipino culture and cuisine.
