President Benigno S. Aquino III stressed the vital role of the local government officials in determining the needs of their jurisdictions and that they are in the right position to craft concrete measures to respond to their necessities as he graced the 2014 General Assembly of the League of Municipalities of the Philippines (LMP) held at the Manila Hotel.

The President pointed out that development is only impossible if a leader only thinks of his own interests. He said that the Performance Challenge Fund (PCF) is for all local officials who want to fulfil their promise of change regardless of what political party they belong to. As long as they are true public servants and they follow policies, they will be provided funds and incentives in order for them to uplift and strengthen their areas.

He said that, “Sa bagong sistema, nag-aambangan ang bawat isa sa atin upang maparami ang handa na sama-sama at patas nating pinagsasaluhan… Darating po ang araw na makukuntento ang mga sumusunod na henerasyon tungkol sa isang napakahalagang panahon sa Pilipinas – isang panahon ng pagkakaisa, transpormasyon at pag-unlad.”

President Aquino administered the mass oath of office of the 22 new officers of the LMP and the new officers of the leagues of LGUs before addressing the more than one thousand members of LMP and LLGU.
