President Rodrigo Roa Duterte administered the oath of office to the newly elected local government officials of Cagayan de Oro City held at the Convention Hall of Xavier Sports and Country Club in Cagayan de Oro City.

In his remarks, the President talked about some of the recent and notable accomplishments of the government including the rehabilitation and land reform of Boracay Island in Aklan, where many island natives have been awarded land ownership.

He also stressed the measures being done by the government in addressing crime and corruption, particularly the trade of illegal drugs in the country, and reiterated his orders to the law enforcers to neutralize illegal drug abusers if their lives are in jeopardy.

The President came to Cagayan de Oro City after his engagement in Malabang, Lanao del Sur where he held an audience with the 6th Infantry Battalion for the 121st Philippine Independence Day celebration. He also narrated how he has always been enamored by national heroes who died for the country’s sovereignty and shared his admiration for Justice Jose Abad Santos, the fifth Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the Philippines, who refused to swear an oath to the Japanese flag and was executed in Malabang.
