President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. administered the oath of office to Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Junard ‘Ahong’ Chan as Chairperson of the Regional Peace and Order Council (RPOC) – Region VII in a ceremony at the Study Room in Malacañan Palace.
The Peace and Order Council was created under Executive Order (EO) No. 727, s. 1981 to prepare and submit to the Office of the President (OP) a national plan which shall outline peace and order campaigns and policies; to coordinate and monitor peace and order plans, projects and relative activities; and to develop, design and establish an information system which shall provide data needed by agencies concerned with, the administration of justice, among others.
EO No. 773., s. 2009 calls for a further reorganization of the Peace and Order Council where every Region, Province, City and Municipality in the country is mandated to create a POC.
As Chairperson of the RPOC-Region VII, Mayor Chan is set to lead the Region in the collaborative effort to further strengthen measures in promoting safety and security among Filipinos, as well as ensuring peace and order across the country.
