President Rodrigo Roa Duterte reminded the newly promoted Generals and Flag Officers of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) to serve with integrity and uphold the rule of law as he administered their oath of office in a ceremony in Malacañan Palace.

In his speech, the Commander-in-Chief commended the newly promoted military officials in this significant landmark of their career in the service. He also mentioned that he strongly supported the merit system of the AFP and the PNP, and did not interfered in the chain of command since he was elected into public office in Davao up to now.

“As you fulfill your responsibility to protect the Filipino people and preserve the Republic, I assure you that I shall stand by you as you start your respective tasks. In return, I ask that you help me restore the people‟s faith in their government,” he said.

On the administration’s campaign against illegal drugs and criminality, President Duterte mentioned that the government has made a substantial progress in its campaign, and asked the men and women of the AFP to “remain steadfast and vigilant in sustaining our efforts as we strive to fully eradicate these social ills.”

He also reiterated the mandate of the AFP as the protector of the Filipino people and the state, reminding the soldiers to perform their duties with the highest standards of excellence and professionalism.

“I look to our newly appointed generals and flag officers to serve with integrity and uphold the rule of law. May you lead the men and women of the AFP and hone them into exemplary and effective soldiers our citizens can rely on,” he added.

Likewise, President Duterte called for the military and uniformed personnel’s (MUP) cooperation with the government in achieving its goals in nation building.

“Together, let us continue to make great strides as we collectively bring our nation towards a better and brighter future,” President Duterte said.
