Central Jakarta

Known as the Monumen Nasional in Bahasa Indonesia, the structure is the focal point of the Merdeka Square in Central Jakarta. This is also the resting place of the first red and white flag waved during the Proclamation of the Indonesian Independence on August 17, 1945, the replica of which is being used during Independence Day ceremonies held at the front of the Merdeka Palace.

Crowned by a 14.5 meter bronze flame with 32 kilograms gold leaf, the iconic obelisk monument has a museum within its pedestal that has a diorama of Indonesia’s Independence. A lift is also made available to take visitors up for an over-looking view of Central Jakarta.
