President Rodrigo Roa Duterte vowed to support the micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in the country as he graced the National MSME Summit 2018 at the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Convention Center (ACC) in Clark Freeport Zone, Pampanga.

“Maybe inuna ko lang ‘yung defense because I said there’s a — I see dark clouds ahead. So inuna ko muna ‘yung matters that would make us strong. But maybe next year I will pour more sa SME para sa mga mahirap,” the President said to the MSME representatives during the event.

The Chief Executive also assured to implement the ease of doing business for budding businessmen and expressed his plan to stop the proliferation of the ‘5-6’ lending scheme in the country.

“Anak ako ng mahirap. Believe me. Noon pa 5-6 na ang nanay ko. ‘Yun talaga, that is my burning desire. Either I stop the 5-6 or I will stop the collectors. Ganun lang ‘yan,” he stressed.

Moreover, President Duterte reiterated to curb corruption in the country.

“‘Yan lang ang magawa ko para sa inyo because I said corruption. It does not exclude local governments. ‘Yan ang garantiya ko,” he assured.

Upon his arrival, President Duterte, together with Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Secretary Ramon Lopez, took time to view the photo wall of DTI’s 7Ms Strategies — Mindset Change, Mastery, Mentoring, Money, Machine, Market Access, and Models of Business — for fostering MSMEs in the Philippines, and the booth for the Go Lokal products.

DTI Secretary Lopez also talked on the accomplishment of the MSME Development Plan 2017-2022’s Seven-Point Agenda and Anchor Programs before the President who, likewise, received the MSME Development Council Report.

With the theme, ‘Accelerating 7Ms for Competitive MSMEs,’ the Summit aimed to convene MSME representatives across the country to provide them with opportunities to innovate and be competitive to their businesses by listening to the insights of experts in various business fields.
