President Benigno S. Aquino III was conferred an honorary degree of Doctor in Public Administration (Honoris Causa) by the Manuel L. Quezon University (MLQU) during its 68th commencement exercises at Sofitel Hotel in Pasay City.

The President was given a special degree in recognition of his vital role in the development of the Philippine economy, his exceptional service to the nation and for elevating the quality of education in the country.

In his speech, President Aquino cited the administration’s accomplishments and the fruits of his ‘good governance programs and projects’ in education, health, employment, and infrastructure among others.

He also quoted what Manuel L. Quezon had said, “I believe that education is the right of all citizens. An educated people is needed to insure the upliftment of the masses and the creation of wealth for all.”

National Defense Secretary Voltaire Gazmin, Labor Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz and
Philippine Economic Zone Authority Director-General Lilia de Lima are just some of the prominent alumni of MLQU.

The institution began as the MLQU School of Law in November 1, 1947 and eventually started offering academic units. It acquired University status in 1958.
