President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. underscored the crucial role of the micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to the country’s post-pandemic economic recovery, as well as the promotion of digitalization, as these are aligned with the top priorities of his Administration.
“Our MSMEs form part of the backbone of our economy, generating more than half of our employment and this is why it is fully recognized that this sector’s critical role in our country’s economic regeneration, job creation and poverty reduction is critical,” President Marcos Jr. remarked in his keynote address during the MSME Summit 2022 at The Manila Hotel in the City of Manila.
The President vowed to revitalize the MSMEs in the country, citing that his government is fully committed to working hand-in-hand with its stakeholders to make sure that MSMEs are protected and provided with ample opportunities to grow.
“As your President, I assure you that the revitalization of our MSMEs is among the administration’s top priorities,” the Chief Executive stressed.
Likewise, he commended the collaborative efforts rendered by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Go Negosyo and the Embassy of the United States of America in the Philippines that led to the success of the MSME Summit 2022.
“You are our reliable allies and partners in paving a richer path for collaboration and innovation in the business sector,” said the Chief Executive while further expressing his hope for the MSME Development Council to improve five (5) key business areas, namely the business climate; the access to finance; management and labor; access to technology and innovation; and access to the market.
The Summit, he noted, will help build a resilient and prosperous future for the MSMEs as the government ensures a cohesive approach and sustainable environment for entrepreneurs.
“From this summit and beyond, let us show the world the myriad of possibilities that our MSMEs are able to come up with, to see that those that will demonstrate, not only the spirit of our solidarity, but of Filipino ingenuity and resourcefulness and excellence,” the President ended in his message.
The MSME Summit is designed to foster strategic dialogue where people from different industries will have the opportunity to exchange ideas and insights in establishing pandemic-proof strategies for post-pandemic business recovery.
The event also served as a platform for advocates, enthusiasts, social enterprises and startups to engage with industry leaders, key enablers and decision-makers of Public-Private Partnership (PPP) and MSME in the Philippines.
