The Merlion Park is considered a major landmark and tourist attraction in Singapore. It is situated in the Central Business District (CBD) of the city, covering an area of almost 2,500 square meters. It is a must-see place for millions of tourists around the world visiting the country. The park is also home to the iconic symbol of the country, the Merlion.
The Merlion was first created in 1964 under the Singapore Tourist Promotion Board as its official emblem. Since its introduction, the Merlion has become quite popular that in 1972, two statues were erected at the mouth of the Singapore River. One statue measures 8.6 meters high and the other stands at two meters.
