President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. expressed his deepest gratitude to the overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in Singapore, particularly for their overwhelming support in the May 2022 Presidential election that won him a landslide victory, during a gathering held at the Ho Bee Auditorium of the National University of Singapore (NUS).
“Malalim po ang utang na loob namin sa inyo, kaya ang aming kapalit ay ang trabaho at ang pagpaganda sa Pilipinas,” the President said as he recognized how the OFWs in Singapore was hailed second in rank with the highest voter turnout for overseas automated voting in the Asia Pacific since overseas voting began in 2004.
The Chief Executive also emphasized the invaluable contributions of the OFWs in showcasing the Filipino talents and creativity in various fields of profession abroad that helped shape the image on how OFWs are viewed and appreciated by the locality it serves.
“There is no doubt in my mind that the Philippines can recover from the hardships caused by the pandemic. Hand-in-hand, sama-sama tayong babangon muli. We will rise above the challenges and we will fly to greater heights, ” he said.
In closing his speech, the President outlined the government’s plan to help the plight of the OFWs and their families through various projects to be spearheaded by the newly created Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) in 2023.
