“Isang patunay ng malapit na ugnayan ng ating dalawang bansa ay ang tinatawag nating people-to-people connections. At kayo, ang mga Pilipino na nandito sa Vietnam, ang patunay kung gaano kalapit ang ating mga bansa…Kaya’t ako’y lubos na nagpapasalamat sa inyong lahat dahil napapadali ang aking trabaho dahil sa magandang reputasyon na itinaguyod niyo sa pamamagitan ng inyong sipag at tiyaga dito sa Vietnam,” President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. said in addressing the Filipino community on the first day of his State Visit to the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.
Amid the cheers and warm greetings from his countrymen, the President, together with First Lady Louise Araneta Marcos and the rest of the Philippine delegation, attended the Filipino community gathering held in the capital city of Hanoi.
“Siyempre, hindi natin nakakalimutan ang patuloy na pagsuporta sa ating bansa ng mga overseas Filipino dito sa Vietnam. Ito ay sa pamamagitan sa inyong patuloy na pagpupursigi at pagpapadala ng pera sa inyong mga pamilya sa Pilipinas. At ang mga remittances na ito ay hindi lamang nakakatulong sa inyong pamilya, barangay o bayan. Tulong na rin po ito sa buong bansa,” the President expressed.
He cited the Administration’s continuous efforts to spur economic growth for the Philippines, citing that gross domestic product (GDP) exceeded government’s target of 6.5% and increased by 7.6%. For the third quarter of 2023, GDP increased by 5.9% spurred by robust domestic consumption and continued expansion of industry and services sectors.
“Kaparte ako sa inyong mga pagsisikap at dama ko ang inyong malasakit sa ating kapwa Pilipino. Nakikipag-alyansa tayo sa mga bansa gaya ng Vietnam upang maabot natin ang mga pangarap na ito sa pamamagitan ng mahusay na pakikipag-ugnayan sa larangan ng seguridad, kalakalan at ekonomiya. Magtiwala kayo na patuloy na sumuporta sa ating pamahalaan sapagkat ang pangarap ninyo ay pangarap ko rin,” President Marcos Jr. ended in his speech.
There are about 7,000 Filipinos, who are mostly professionals, residing and working in Vietnam. From this number, about 3,000 are teachers since there is a high demand of English in Vietnam schools and young Vietnamese professionals who want to learn the English language. Apart from teachers, there is a high presence of Filipino nurses, doctors, garments supervisors and executives in Filipino companies operating in Vietnam.
