President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. joined the chief executive officers (CEOs) of different Japanese shipping companies and their counterparts from the Philippine private sector in a meeting at the Okura Hotel in Tokyo, Japan.

According to Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) Secretary Susan ‘Toots’ Ople, the event was anchored on President Marcos Jr.’s commitment to enhance the Philippines’ global competitiveness, advancement of partnerships with stakeholders in maritime education and other welfare programs, as well in ensuring the safety and security of all Filipino seafarers.

The Japanese shipping companies present in the meeting vowed to continue employing Filipino seafarers, as they consider them an essential part of the industry.

President Marcos Jr. reassured them that the Administration will continue to exert initiatives to improve the skills and expertise of the country’s sea-based workers.
