The meeting of President Benigno S. Aquino III with Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) officials, headed by President and CEO Mr. Hwan-eik Cho, led to the affirmation of KEPCO’s commitment to put up a new power plant that will produce at least 150 megawatts.
The discussion focused on KEPCO’s investment plans to develop an additional 700 MW of base load capacities through the establishment of three coal-fired power plants in the Philippines with a combined investment value of at least USD700 million. These are in Bataan, 300MW; Bislig, Surigao del Sur, 200 MW; and Cadiz, Negros Occidental, 200 MW.
Meanwhile, President Aquino directed Energy Secretary Carlos Jericho Petilla to work out with KEPCO alternative options on locating proposed new power plant facilities within the Bataan Nuclear Power Plant reservation. This is in response to its offer to lease the BNPP facilities.
KEPCO (Philippines) President and CEO Mr. Kyu-byeng Hwang and Executive Vice President and Chief Global Business Officer Mr. Kyong-goo Hur accompanied Mr. Cho during the meeting.
