President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. held a business meeting with the executives of Kanadevia Corporation and Phil. Ecology Systems Corp. (PhilEco) on the second day of his Working Visit to Osaka, Japan.

The meeting centered on Kanadevia Corporation’s investment plan for the Manila Waste-to-Energy (WtE) Project in partnership with PhilEco, a major player in the design, construction, and operation of integrated sanitary solid waste management and disposal facilities in the Philippines.

Headquartered in Osaka, Kanadevia Corporation specializes in environmental systems, including advanced WtE facilities, desalination plants and water treatment technologies. It is the Japanese proponent, co-investor and technology provider in the Manila WtE Project.

The Manila Waste-to-Energy (WtE) Project is located in Smokey Mountain, City of Manila. It is aimed at transforming Metro Manila’s waste disposal system through sustainable, large-scale energy recovery. This groundbreaking and strategic infrastructure initiative will address several national priorities, such as the improvement of Manila’s waste disposal system, power generation, foreign direct investment (FDI) generation, employment creation and environmental sustainability.

Following the meeting, President Marcos Jr. also held talks with the executives of Tsuneishi Shipbuilding Co., Ltd., ranked as among the world’s top shipbuilders. A globally recognized Japanese shipbuilder, Tsuneishi Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. has been a key player in the international maritime industry since 1917, accounting for a significant share of the global market for medium-sized bulk carriers.

The company specializes in building bulk carriers, container ships and tankers. It maintains a strong global footprint through shipyard operations in Japan, China and the Philippines, with business offices across Asia and Europe.

It is embarking on its fifth phase of expansion in its shipyard in Balamban, Cebu by investing in new capital equipment and enhancing research and development capabilities, underscoring Tsuneishi’s commitment to advancing sustainable shipbuilding technologies and strengthening its presence in the Philippines.
