Following the welcome ceremony by President Benigno S. Aquino III, Their Majesties Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko of Japan met with a few members of the Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteers (JOCV).

JOCV is one of the programs of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) that focuses on providing technical assistance to developing countries. Its members, with ages ranging from 20-39 years old, spend two years living and working with people in the community.
