Highlighting his visit at Istana Negara (National Palace) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and First Lady Louise Araneta Marcos met with His Majesty Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah Ibni Almarhum Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Al-Mustafa’in Billah, Yang di-Pertuan Agong XVI (16th King) of Malaysia, and Her Majesty Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah Binti Almarhum Al-Mutawakkil Alallah Sultan Iskandar.
In his departure statement, the Chief Executive underscored that the Philippines and Malaysia have long enjoyed close economic ties which are supported by strong bilateral relations stretching back for decades. With the Royal Audience, he intended to discuss ways to further deepen the two nations’ partnerships covering different areas of mutual interest.
According to Ambassador Charles Jose of the Embassy of the Philippines, this visit of President Marcos Jr. to Malaysia likewise takes advantage of the momentum created by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim who is the first Head of Government to pay an official visit to the Philippines under the Marcos Administration. As such, the national government intends to further look for synergies with Malaysia especially on issues that will promote security, prosperity and the well-being of their respective peoples, noting that both nations are not just neighbors but important partners in the Southeast Asian Region.
