President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. discussed the government’s plan to implement long-term measures in ensuring the safety of communities affected by the Kanlaon Volcano eruption during a meeting at the State Dining Room, Malacañan Palace.

The President emphasized that the plan involves identifying safe evacuation sites and establishing permanent relocation areas.

A National Task Force on Kanlaon will be organized to be headed by the Department of National Defense (DND) – Office of Civil Defense (OCD).

The Chief Executive further pointed out the need for a plan to move people out of danger zones and build large evacuation centers for Kanlaon-affected residents. He likewise directed all concerned agencies to continue supporting affected localities, noting the significance of an efficient coordination between the national and local governments.

The explosive eruption of Kanlaon occurred last December 9, 2024. As of date, officials from the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) said that the eastern side of the volcano is still inflating, at least at the upper slopes, recording nine (9) tremors in the past 24 hours.
