Heroes Hall, Malacañan Palace
May 27, 2019
President
Rodrigo Roa Duterte administered the oath of office to the newly appointed government
officials from various government offices and government-owned and controlled
corporations (GOCCs) at the Heroes Hall in Malacañan Palace.
“Let us be reminded
that public office is a public trust… I trust that you will perform your duties
to the best of your abilities, uphold transparency, good governance, and fight
corruption in your respective offices,” President Duterte said.
On the next
House of Representatives speakership, the President clarified that he would not
be taking sides and shall allow Congress to elect its own House Speaker.
“Sa
speakership, wala akong kinakampihan. I
am [in] my last 3 [years]. Gusto ko lang
to do good and if that good is not good for everybody, well I’m sorry. ‘Yan lang ang makaya ko,” he said.
Moreover,
the President said that he would step down from office if his son, Davao City
Representative Paolo Duterte, seeks the House speakership.
“If you run for the
speakership let me know… kung tatakbo ka magre-resign na ako kasi marami na
tayo,” the President said.
Among those vying for the House Speaker are Taguig
City 1st District Representative Alan
Peter Cayetano, Davao del Norte 1st District Representative
Pantaleon Alvarez, Leyte 1st District Representative Martin
Romualdez, and Marinduque Lone District Representative Lord Allan Jay Velasco.
